CRICKETS
Crickets
Screening of work-in-progress
Mermaid Arts Centre, Bray, Co Wicklow
7:30pm, Wednesday 10 December 2025
When Constance’s husband disappears, she finds herself unexpectedly embroiled in his family’s dark schemes and political machinations.
Crickets is a six-part TV Series originally conceived by Bea McMahon and developed with Artémise Ploegaerts, Deniz Buga, Nathan O’Donnell, Zhana Ivanova, Eva Susova, Leonid Tsvetkov, and Díc Walsh. As a series it plays with generic tropes and expectations in its depiction of a private domestic tragedy unfolding against a backdrop of international military conspiracy and the creation of a dangerous artificial super-intelligence.
The Pilot (or what may become Episode 2) was written and shot on location with Treignac Projet, France, in summer 2024. Episode 1 was written and shot at various locations with Kunstverein Aughrim, Ireland, in summer 2025, in collaboration with Bea McMahon, Artémise Ploegaerts, Díc Walsh, Deniz Buga, and Nathan O’Donnell.
On Wednesday 10 December, Mermaid Arts Centre will host a work-in-progress screening of Crickets, followed by an artist talk with Bea McMahon in conversation with Kate Strain and Alice Bulter (aemi). This event will share behind the scenes insights into the making of the TV show, reflecting on a live summer shoot across locations including the formal gardens of the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Tomnafinnoge Woods, and The Courthouse Arts Centre, Tinahely in summer 2025. Working in the genre of 'cringe tragedy' and improvising script, set, characters, costumes and direction on location, this event marks an opportunity to see the first draft of an episode and hear about the production process from the inside out. The event is developed by Kunstverein Aughrim in collaboration with Mermaid Arts Centre.
