Culture Night at Kunstverein Aughrim brings together artist Jenny Brady and composer Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh for an evening of live performance. Marking the opening of Brady's exhibition The Reference Library, the programme offers an opportunity to encounter two distinct artistic practices in dialogue, exploring the relationships between voice, listening, language and sound.
The evening begins with a welcome from curator Kate Strain, followed by an introduction by Jenny Brady to The Reference Library, an exhibition bringing together a selection of moving image works that examine speech, translation and the structures through which meaning is produced and shared. Responding to the exhibition, Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh will present a live solo performance. Her practice moves between composition and improvisation, using repetition, resonance and sustained tones to create attentive listening environments that extend and reframe the concerns of Brady's work.
Jenny Brady is an artist filmmaker based in Dublin, exploring ideas around speech, translation and communication. Her films have been presented at LUX, The New York Film Festival, Viennale, Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, Open City Documentary Festival, Cork International Film Festival, Docs Ireland (with AEMI), This Long Century, MUBI, Essay Film Festival, McEvoy Foundation for the Arts, San Francisco, TENT Rotterdam, EMAF, Videonale, Camden International Film Festival, Massachusetts, BFI London Film Festival, Images Festival, Toronto, November Film Festival, London the Irish Film Institute, Project Arts Centre, EVA International, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Whitechapel gallery and Tate Liverpool. Her works are distributed by LUX, an international arts agency that supports and promotes artists’ moving image practices and the ideas that surround them. Previous moving image works include The Glass Booth (2025), Music for Solo Performer (2023)Receiver (2019) Going to the Mountain / Spikes (2018), Going to the Mountain (2016), Bone (2015), Wow and Flutter (2013), Carve Up (2013), Technology Autonomous (2012), and As Above, So Below (2010).

Ailbhe Nic Oireachtaigh is a composer and viola player from Ireland. A background in experimental, DIY, early & baroque, jazz & improvised music inform her practice. In her approach to the viola, Nic Oireachtaigh enjoys to excavate the potential of the instrument as a sound producing object, alongside a more conventional melodic path. She is inspired by minimalism as an activity and sound palette and focuses on experiential sound through the use of quietness and overdrives in live performance. Three solo releases focus on exploring the instrument - Oreing (Fort Evil Fruit 2017), The Rounds (KRUT 2021) and Live At Sonic Acts (Scatter Archive 2023), while her most recent album Lux Gratis (KRAAK 2025) is a collage method assemblage of music, begun while in residence at Q-02 sonic arts lab in Brussels. It brings new compositional explorations on organ, electronics and woodwind in tandem with home-style field recordings and the more familiar viola. An active collaborator, Nic Oireachtaigh has performed with artists Josephine Foster, Natalia Beylis, Circuit des Yeux, Rhodri Davies, David Lacey, Lori Goldston, Andrew Cheetham, Jorge Boehringer, Quinie, Anna Clock, Josh Thorpe amongst others. She has also worked with film makers Jenny Brady The Glass Booth (2025), Adam Lewis Jacob Ecstatic _ (2023/2025) and Anne-Marie Copestake Birdsong and a bathroom (2024). Alongside many solo performances at festivals such as Counterflows (SCO), Archipel(CH) and Oscillation (BE), some group concerts of note include a specially commissioned work by Natalia Beylis called Around Here, the Birds Plant the Trees and a premier of Eliane Radigue’s Asymptote Versatile (1963-64) directed by Rhodri Davies at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival 2023. Nic Oireachtaigh lives in Glasgow where she plays in free-improv quartet Dome Riders Dome Riders with Fritz Welch, Armin Sturm and Mike Parr Burman.

Parking
There is limited on street parking in the village with one accessible parking spot outside Day Break, across the road from Kunstverein Aughrim.
Building Access
Kunstverein Aughrim is not step free, it has five steps at the entrance, with no handrails. Kunstverein Aughrim is located in the centre of the village, with busy roads either side. The footpaths are wide and uneven. There is a curb 40 meters from the entrance. Kunstverein Aughrim has one inaccessible bathroom.
