PATCH
On Spring Equinox 2024 artist Marielle MacLeman convened Home Industries, a group of skilled needleworkers who were tasked with undertaking weekly embroidery shifts for the duration of MacLeman’s exhibition To Impermanent Collections and Scattered Acquisitions (March to May 2024) at Kunstverein Aughrim.
Establised in homage to the historic communities of socialist labour that upheld the Croatian textile industry, and as a way of managing an intensive artistic working process, the group quickly became a solid local collective, whose musings, insights and concerns brought solace and a sense of community at a time when Kunstverein Aughrim was finding its place in the village. What started as a working task force developed into a community of friendship, a space for conversations and being together, set to the pace and rhythm of shared handwork.
This patch, designed in collaboration with The First 47, commemorates and celebrates the collective spirit of Home Industries: PEACE WORK, NOT PIECEWORK.
