This edition of 24 silk scarves is produced on the occasion of Sonia Shiel’s major solo exhibition Medusa in Pieces, at VISUAL Carlow, Autumn/Winter 2023.
Dress for Angles was specially commissioned by Kunstverein Aughrim, and produced by artist Sonia Shiel. The four quadrants of the image represent the four seasons, and contain depictions of the four creatures of Shiel’s Medusa (spider, serpent, beetle, fly), as well as four magical properties – transposition, restoration, disembodiment, and prediction. An assembly of props (a sounding horn, a plucked feather, a harvest sheaf, a crystal ball, and birdsong) are held by eight disembodied arms, while eight legs tread water in multi-dimensions.
