CREATIVE PRODUCER PROGRAMME
Through practice we recognise that in order for the visual arts to evolve, artists and institutions need more Creative Producers and Independent Curators to support artists, bridge gaps between practice and presentation, and build production capacity in synergy with existing frameworks and infrastructure.
We understand the role of Creative Producer as a confluence of the conventional roles of the visual arts curator, film or theatre producer, and exhibition production manager. The role encompasses curatorial practice, artistic support, creative input, critical thinking, strategic and financial planning, stakeholder liaison and collaboration, project management, technical production, audience development and more.
Training and Development Days
These sessions are developed with and hosted by our partner organisations, to facilitate in-depth training, knowledge-transfer and peer learning. Our training partners include; EVA International, Fire Station Artists’ Studios, Galway Arts Centre, Ireland at Venice, Mermaid Arts Centre, National Sculpture Factory, Ormston House, Regional Cultural Centre, Sirius Arts Centre, The Dock, The Douglas Hyde Gallery of Contemporary Art, and VISUAL. Our development partners include Kunstverein Aughrim, Cow House Studios and The Courthouse Arts Centre.
- An international collaboration with participants of de Appel Curatorial Programme in Amsterdam.
- A practice-based project or placement either in partnership with an existing exemplary commissioning body, or on a self-directed curatorial production project.
- The development of a Creative Producer Handbook that documents and evaluates the overall programme.
Participants of Kunstverein’s Creative Producer Programme receive ongoing curatorial guidance and support, and are remunerated for their engagement with the programme. The programme is guided by our vision that Ireland's capacity to produce contemporary artwork meets and elevates the exceptional potential of the artists that live and work here.
Open Call Process
Applications to participate in Kunstverein’s Creative Producer Programme were invited via Open Call (the deadline was 30 June 2025). We received over 70 applications for the six places offered by the programme, making it a highly competitive selection process.
Applications were assessed and shortlisted based on the criteria outlined in the Guidelines. Members of the assessment panel included Aude Christel Mgba, Krist Gruijthuijsen, and Lara Khaldi. Shortlisted candidates were invited for interviews that took place over two days in July 2025. The interview jury included Krist Gruijthuijsen, Michelle Darmody, and Kate Strain.
Following this highly competitive process six applicants were invited to participate in the programme. Read more about the 2025–2027 Creative Producer Programme participants here.
