RIK HIGASHIKAWA

Rik Higashikawa is a multidisciplinary, research-driven artist and writer who is currently based between Wicklow and Dublin, Ireland. Their films, performances and texts map moments of tension between technocratic systems of power and our capacities to act upon or in league with our surroundings. Higashikawa renders porous seemingly absolute perspectives in an attempt to magnify narratives that have been cast to the peripheries. Their recent film ‘Hypermedia Apophenia’ draws close the large scale surveillance project called ROXANNE (Real time netwOrk, teXt, and speaker Analytics for combatiNg orgaNized crimE), in order to demystify it’s embedded, abstracted, top-down governance strategies.

In 2022 Kunstverein Aughrim commissioned Rik Higashikawa to develop and realise Literary Monuments. This collaboration was supported by The Arts Council of Ireland and Wicklow County Council. In 2023 Kunstverein Aughrim commissioned Rik to devise a follow-up workshop titled Untranslatable Kernels, as part of Stone Soup
