LAUNCH 9.10.22

The official launch of Kunstverein Aughrim took place at 12 noon on Sunday 9 October 2022.

The inaugural commission by artist collective Forerunner was unveiled within a live public programme of new projects and performances including MAGPIE by Isadora Epstein at the Forresters’ Hall, new photography by Rich Gilligan at the Stonecutter Café, a banner drop by Yurika Higashikawa opposite the Monument and an exhibition of Aughrim’s Intangible Heritage by The 1798 Club at the Pavilion.

Activities including pottery and wood-turning demonstrations by Christien van Bussel, ironcraft and forge techniques by Damien Hogan, and traditional music by Col Ceathrar. Nourishment was provided in the form of Italian Wedding Soup made by Frank Abruzzese and Rosie O'Gorman from Cow House Studios, served alongside Orto sourdough at The Stonecutter Cafe. A locally foraged ditch spritzwas concocted by artist Fiona Hallinan, and a sea of tea and biscuits by Aughrim Active Retirement Group swept over the village, on an otherwise rainy Sunday, between 12 noon and 4pm.

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate the launch of Ireland’s first Kunstverein with such gusto despite the downpour! A short clip documenting the day can be viewed here.
